AI safety needs Southeast Asia’s expertise and engagement

Southeast Asian countries, along with others in the Global Majority continue to be excluded from critical conversations on AI governance.
Despite this, organizations and countries within this region are actively developing frameworks and technical mechanisms to promote contextualized AI safety approaches.
To strengthen AI safety and governance initiatives, Southeast Asian countries should support opportunities for public engagement in policy discussions and build capacity for local AI research and development.
